Medical Office Administration Associate in Specialized Technology
Individuals considering a career as a medical office assistant are those who enjoy working within a health setting, organizing and participating in managing the medical office, and meeting and greeting patients. Candidates must hold a high school diploma or GED.
The Medical Office Administration program was designed to train students in meeting with the needs of the modern medical front office. The student can learn the responsibilities necessary to perform either in an administrative position or as an important team member of the secretarial support system for both private or public physicians offices.
As the Medical Office Administration program progresses, students will be trained in business math, English, medical terminology, word processing, typing, electronic transcription, filing, medical office procedures, telephone techniques, accounting , and medical accounting. Students will be expected to attend classes Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm.
Upon completion of classroom instruction, the student is placed in a 200 clock hour externship at a medically related facility to apply classroom knowledge in a practical work situation. The externship supervisor will provide attendance confirmation and performance evaluation at completion of the externship.
Job placement services are provided by the school to assist the graduate in obtaining employment for job opportunities found in hospitals, private group practices, physicians' offices, and medical centers.
Student class size will be limited to 30 students to allow each student maximum personal attention.
Program offered at the main campus in Pittsburgh and at the Monroeville location.
